Display Text | Compositing Error |
Description | "Compositing Error" is any artifact or impairment induced by poorly implemented VFX that is not creatively inherent to a scene. This error code should only be used for live-action content, as similar anomalies for animated content should be noted under the errors: “[098] Animation/ VFX Intersection Error”, “[099] Animation Incomplete Outline”, “[100] Animation/ VFX Lighting/ Shading Error”, or “[043] Animation Error” if they don’t fall under the more specific codes above. |
Ex. Character who is the focus of the frame is clearly distorted when moving into a background layer.
Impact | Compositing errors are distracting to the member experience, potentially taking their attention away from the story and drawing it to the technical aspects of the production/VFX process. |
Severity Assessment Guidance | |
FYI | Anomaly is noticeable in real-time playback and does not require an operator to significantly adjust their monitor settings or viewing environment, BUT does not impact the center of frame, the main focus of action, or a speaking character. |
Issue | Error is noticeable in real-time playback, does not require an operator to significantly adjust their monitor settings or viewing environment, AND occurs in the center of frame, main focus of action, or impacts a speaking character. |

Solutions | |
How to Prevent | Review final VFX shots before they are sent to color and finishing. Adjusting exposure levels, monitor levels and/or stepping frame by frame through a final shot may help reveal compositing errors. |
How to Fix | If the compositing error is minor, it may be possible to address in color and finishing with a reframe or paint fix. For significant compositing errors, production will most likely need the VFX team to address and re-render a corrected version. |
