Luminance - Shift in Black Levels

Shift in Black Levels is a change in minimum luminance value mid-scene, shot or asset level.

Shift in Black Levels impacts the Technical and Content Quality of the asset. The overall look of the scene or shot will not be consistent with the intended look of the program, thus not fulfilling the creative vision of the producers. Customer experience will also be negatively affected by the look and tone of a shot, which may flash with a change, jarring them out of a seamless viewing experience. This is rarely creative intent. Any video derived from this asset will contain a Shift in Black Levels.

Severity Structure:

Change in black levels appears to be creative intent and style is consistent throughout program.

One shot or scene looks washed out compared to rest of program.

How to Prevent:

Check the DI Session and verify that the timing is consistent across multiple shots, check to ensure any LUT applied is done for all shots. Check to make sure all rendered segments were correctly implemented in final conform.

Color timing must be adjusted to match the overall look of the show or scene.
