For any productions utilizing our Content Hub VFX Pull system, this page has many frequently asked questions that may be helpful.

Q: Does the VFX Pull tool require a specific type of EDL?

A:
  • Yes.  File 32, or File 129 EDL's with a single video track are acceptable. CMX3600 will not work.

Q: Do I need to remove effects and transitions out of my timeline before exporting my EDL?

A:
  • Yes.  We advise removing any transitions or affects from your shots before exporting an EDL.  There is a chance Content Hub will accept your EDL with effects, but we cannot guarantee it, nor can we guarantee that the exact frames you are requersting will be delivered. Therefore we recommend decomposing and removing all effects.

Q: Can I upload AAF or XML files instead of EDL?

A:
  • Currently our system does not support AAF or XML

Q: What file formats are delivered for pulls?

A:

  • The VFX Pull system will deliver ACES AP0 EXR files.  DPX or any other file format is not currently supported.

Q: Can the system render QT references with dailies color?

A:

  • This is not currently supported.

Q: When I convert to EXR, how is color managed?

A:

  • All EXR's rendered out of Content Hubs VFX Pull system will be rendered in ACES AP0.  In order to do this, the camera manufacturers IDT will be utilized and when an IDT is not available from the camera manufacturer, users will be able to choose from a list of available IDT's. This list will be both camera manufacturer generated IDT's, as well as some Netflix generated ones. Each of the Netflix generated IDT's are also available for download to be used by anyone in production or post.

Q: If I convert to EXR, how is framing managed?

A:

  • Currently the only framing options available are to:
    • Render full resolution
    • Scale to UHD
  • We will soon support custom framing via the Framing Decision List (FDL)

Q: How does UHD scaling work?

A:

  • Currently

Q: Does the system export a new EDL with the changes made during QC of the submission?

A:

  • Currently the VFX Pull system does not export a new EDL.  We have it on our roadmap to to include an EDL and or OTIO that would reflect the final set of files and naming you selected during your submission in Content Hub.

Q: How will someone receive VFX Pulls?

A:  The recipient will receive an email upon completion of the pull and within this email there will be a link to view the submission in Content Hub.  Within Content Hub users can download the entire package, or individual shots.  Users can also instal an application called Netflix Media Downloader, which will allow pulls to be auto downloaded.
