Question:
What is a SHA-1 hash?
Answer:
SHA-1 stands for (Secure Hash Algorithm 1). Initially SHA-1 was used in cryptography to secure digital communications, but has since fallen out of favour for more robust algorithms. We use SHA-1 hashes to generate a unique "fingerprint" of every asset that we receive in order to allow us to check for duplicates or "clashes" which indicate duplicate files.
The error codes, VALIDATOR-15 and VALIDATOR-16, use SHA-1 to detect when the same file has been uploaded more than once.
While the error code INTERNAL-9 reports when we are unable to generate a SHA-1 checksum and indicates that the affected source file is corrupt.
