Camera Format Cards are unique to Content Hub and are a way to categorize all of the different camera formats that have been recorded by production. They allow you to define a unique color pipeline and framing information for each camera format. Each camera format within Content Hub is automatically created during the footage ingest process. Therefore as media is uploaded, Content Hub will inspect the media and use a specific combination of metadata attributes to define a given camera format.
Why are we creating a page in Content Hub to monitor and or manage ‘Camera Formats’?
Aside from having visibility on each camera format that has been used on each production, by having the ability to edit and configure color and framing settings for each camera format, means any downstream transcoding will look correct.
Camera Formats are located in the Project Settings menu for your project.
Each camera format will contain the following metadata:
- Camera Letter
- Source Camera Model
- Sensor Mode (resolution)
- Video Codec
- Lens Squeeze Ratio
- Color Pipeline / IDT
- Source FDL
- Number of clips associated with that camera
Which combination of attributes force the system to generate a new ‘Camera Format’?
If any combination of the following attributes change, a new camera format will be created:
- Camera Letter
- Source Camera Model
- Sensor Mode
- Video Codec
- Lens Squeeze Ratio
If camera formats are uploaded into Content Hub that our system does not recognize, the Source Camera, or other attributes could come up as ‘Missing’. If this happens and you click the Edit button, and manually alter any of the attributes, all future uploads of this camera format will be mapped to these new values.
You have the ability to use free form text to search for a specific camera format card. The results will update automatically.
When looking at a camera format card you will see the unique color pipeline and IDT that we have on file. If you are shooting with a camera that records in RAW with a known ACES IDT, we will automatically apply that IDT and you will see the text: ‘Color transform provided by camera vendor’.
If you wish to select a different known color pipeline you have the ability to do so. Select EDIT.
Then select the color space and transfer function you wish to use from the drop down. Once you select the desired option your IDT will automatically be filled in. Then select Save.
Please note that any changes you make to your camera format cards will only affect VFX/Conform Pulls made after the changes are made. If you are unsure what to select, contact your Netflix Representative.
To upload a custom IDT, select EDIT.
In the Color space and transform function drop down, select Custom - Upload CLF File.
Drag and drop and your custom CLF file, and then select Save.
To upload a custom FDL, select EDIT.
Drag and drop and your custom FLD file in the framing section and then select Save.
To enter missing or update metadata, select Edit. Make your selections from the drop downs. Then select Save to apply.
Additionally if there are two Camera Format Cards that you want to follow the same color pipeline, codec, and lens squeeze you have the option to merge. Please note that merging cards cannot be undone so please proceed with caution and if you have any questions please reach out to your Netflix Representative.
To merge a Camera Format Card, select Edit on the card you want to merge.
Select Merge with Known Format.
From the dropdown menu select the format you wish to merge with, then select Merge. Remember this cannot be undone!
