Error Code:

Suspicious-Display-Aspect-Ratio (The active image area detected by our inspection of the source video appears to have a suspicious display aspect ratio (DAR)

Error Message:

Please verify this DAR is intentional.  Detected active pixels (insert active pixel resolution) => DAR: <insert detected display aspect ratio> (extremely wide), encoded video will have excessive letterboxing

Please verify this DAR is intentional.  Detected active pixels (insert active pixel resolution) => DAR: <insert detected display aspect ratio> (extremely narrow), encoded video will have excessive pillarboxing

Please verify this DAR is intentional.  Detected active pixels (insert active pixel resolution) => DAR: <insert detected display aspect ratio> will result in excessive pillarboxing once encoded to the closest applicable DAR 1.33 (4x3)

Definition:

The detected active image area is an unusual, non-industry standard video display aspect ratio (i.e., wider than 4.5 or narrower than 0.35) across the full runtime of content.  Some examples of “standard” display aspect ratios for film/TV include (non-exhaustive) - 1.78 (16:9), 1.33 (4:3), 1.37, 1.66, 1.85, 2.00 (2:1), 2.35, 2.39, 2.40

  • Example of a suspicious display aspect ratio: 10.96 (extremely wide)
  • Example of a suspicious display aspect ratio: 0.11 (extremely narrow)

Alternatively, the detected active image area is a vertical video DAR and will be encoded to fit within the closest standard DAR 1.33 (4x3).  The resulting encoded video will have excessive pillarboxing.

  • Example of a suspicious display aspect ratio: 0.46; significant difference from closest standard DAR 1.33 (4x3)

Solution:

Review the source and confirm if the video display aspect ratio is as intended.  If it is unintentional, re-render with the intended DAR and redeliver accordingly.

If it is the correct, creatively intended video display aspect ratio, you may override the failed inspection to allow the delivery to process successfully.
