Hardware requirements
- Shuttle drive must use a usb-c/Thunderbolt female connector so that it can work natively in any kiosk deployed by Post Services
- SSD drives with 10Gbps link speed or higher
- NVMe/M2 SSD drives
- Status LED to check connectivity
- Non-encrypted drives
- Non mechanical Sata drives
- Preferably usb-c powered drives, instead of external PSU drives
- Avoid “homegrown” SSDs (internal NVMe drive in a generic non-branded case)
- If using multiple SSDs in RAID configuration, use RAID1 or RAID5 for redundancy
- Consider rugged drives with shock and water resistance for added durability
- NVMe SSD Enclosures are not recommended and can have slower sustained read speeds
- The M4 Mac mini Thunderbolt 4 ports don't support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 natively, and the connection will revert to the lower speed of 10 Gb/s
Software/Filesystem requirements
- Use only APFS/MacOS formatted drives, avoid exFAT
