Product Supplementals and Marketing Assets Style Guide

  • Please be aware that this style guide has been condensed and revised as follows
  • The guideline now focuses on aligning with audio, reading speed and condensing, duration, line treatment, character limit, censorship/swearing, titles, songs, main titles and translator credits
  • For everything else, refer to the main language and translation TTSGs
  • The guideline now has a clearer distinction between product supplementals and marketing assets in terms of aligning with audio, condensing text and reading speed, safe area/character limit, censorship and titles
  • If in doubt about any of these aspects, speak to your Netflix contact

 

Afrikaans

  • New TTSG now available

 

Arabic

  • A new section covering translation and transliteration approaches has been added
  • Edits to the copy and examples have been made in the sections covering language style, acronyms and abbreviations, character names, italics, hashtags, SDH and FNs for Arabic content

 

Basque

  • Revised advice regarding translation of Spanish dialogue for subtitles and SDH

 

Bulgarian

  • Minor adjustments have been made to the following sections: Abbreviations, Foreign Dialogue, Numbers, Quotations, Special Instructions
  • Edits include additional advice regarding placement of quotation marks, use of comma decimal separators and italicization

 

Catalan

  • Revised advice regarding translation of Spanish dialogue for subtitles and SDH
  • Additional wording in the references section

 

Danish

  • The Abbreviations & Acronyms section has been replaced with an external resource

 

Dutch

  • Minor revisions to the sections covering abbreviations, dual speakers, on-screen text, quotations, editing for reading speed and handling of episode titles
  • Several additions to the SDH section
  • The Documentary/Unscripted section has been removed, advice is covered elsewhere

 

English

  • Advice added confirming that en-AU and en-ZA should also follow the English (UK) TTSG
  • Minor revisions to wording around use of double hyphens vs. ellipses, writing out numbers, minor utterances in SDH

 

Finnish

  • Minor adjustments have been implemented in the continuity section

 

Galician

  • Revised advice regarding translation of Spanish dialogue for subtitles and SDH
  • Incorrect external links replaced

 

German

  • Extended wording has been added around handling of capitalization of foreign words, the spelling of "OK", handling of episode titles
  • A more comprehensive SDH section has been added

 

Hebrew

  • Minor edits have been made to the sections covering continuity, on-screen text, titles and SDH

 

Japanese

  • The acronyms section has been extended to include handling of Latin alphabet characters
  • Additions and minor revisions have been made to the opening section, italics, numbers, songs, rules for bleeped dialogue, dual speaker subtitles in SDH, songs and music in SDH, speaker IDs and sound effects in SDH

 

Malay

  • Additions to the sections covering continuity, on-screen text and numbers

 

Portuguese (European)

  • Minor revisions to the sections covering abbreviations (change to rule about % and spaces), italics in songs, italics for some foreign words

 

Russian

  • Characters per row limit increased to 42 CPR
  • Minor revisions to the sections covering foreign dialogue, italics, numbers and the Special Instructions section

 

Spanish

  • Minor revisions to the sections covering abbreviations, character names, documentary/unscripted, on-screen text, italics, numbers and SDH
  • Line treatment section revised with new examples covering the ideal approach to line length
  • Additional resource added to the references section

 

Swedish

  • Revised wording around contained sentences in dual speaker subtitles

 

Traditional Chinese

  • Revised and new approaches to speaker IDs, sound effects and foreign dialogue in SDH
  • New example for use of Chinese of parentheses for on-screen text

 

Vietnamese

  • Revised advice regarding placement of quotations marks around punctuation
