You can now configure deliverables in Content Hub and reuse them across VFX pulls.
A deliverable defines an output configuration (e.g. format, start frame, handles, framing). Once created, it acts as a reusable recipe that can be applied when submitting a pull.
For example, you might create:
- Compressed EXRs at full resolution
- QuickTime reference with dailies framing and color
When creating a VFX pull, you can select one or more of your predefined deliverables instead of configuring outputs manually each time. You can also set default deliverables that are automatically enabled for every submission.
For more advanced workflows, a workflow supervisor can preconfigure deliverables with multiple output specifications. This allows editorial teams to submit pulls without needing to manage technical settings.
Deliverables can also be scoped to specific events within a pull using markers and filters, enabling different output configurations within the same submission.
This is because deliverables are flexible:
- Enable or disable them per pull
- Combine multiple deliverables in a single submission
- Process some events differently by filtering out the list
The following sections cover how to configure and use deliverables in detail.
Creating A deliverable
To access the deliverables page, select Project Settings in Content Hub.
Select VFX Pulls
Select Add Deliverable
Now name your deliverable in the Name Deliverable field. The name is freeform, but should be structured for clarity.
We recommend including:
- Destination format (EXR or QT)
- Targe Resolution (UHD..)
- Target framing configuration (Full frame, pad framing decision protection…)
- Color marker (when using filters for per-event output configurations)
Consistent naming makes deliverables easier to identify and apply during pull creation.
For format you you can select between two output formats:
- EXR (ACES AP0)
- QuickTime (SDR)
The destination color space is fixed for each format and cannot be modified.
If you select EXR as your output format, a configuration window where you can customize your EXR output . This configuration window is the same as the one you find when creating a pull from scratch.
For our first deliverable we'll use our defaults, but you may configure it however you'd like! You can also configure as many as you’d like and have them enabled or disabled by default on the submissions’ page.
Once you’re ready, Select Save.
Setting up a HD Quicktime Deliverable
You have the ability to set up an HD Quicktime deliverable in case your workflow requires an SDR, quicktime reference. Important limitations:
- Only SDR is supported.
- No information can currently be burnt into the image
Select Add Deliverable.
Name your deliverable, keeping in mind the same recommendations as above.
Select Quicktime (Rec709 with Grade Applied) from the format drop down.
From Output Naming, select your desired option from the drop down menu.
Important note: If you're filtering the list on other deliverable using different color markers on your EDL, it's best to use the * From source clip: attribute as the source for the QT name (called ListFile Name Column in our system) since this field is consistent across events, even if they have different markers. This will require duplicating the same name both on the marker color AND the clip name field.
From Framing, select your desired option from the drop down menu.
Important note: Scale to HD will NOT produce a 1920x1080 render. Instead, the longer side of the video will take the width or height of HD, but the other side will be as long as it needs to be in order to preserve its original aspect ratio. To produce a 1920X1080 render select Advanced (with FDL) from the framing drop down.
In Target Dimensions type in 1920X1080.
From the Preserve From Source, select your desired option from the drop down menu. Ensuring that the "Framing decision" is selected both in 'Fit source' and in 'preserve from source'.
Lastly select Save.
(Advanced) Configuring Additional EXR deliverable with different processing instructions
You can configure a second EXR (or QT) deliverable with different processing instructions to support additional output requirements. You can also set specific processing for specific marker colors. You can add as many deliverables as you'd like. You can also configure multiple EXR processing templates to support different output requirements. For example, you may want:
- Full-resolution outputs
- UHD-scaled outputs with padding for protection
The following section explains how to create and manage additional EXR processing templates.
Select Add Deliverable.
Name your new deliverable, keeping in mind the same recommendations as above.
From Output Naming, select your desired option from the drop down menu. This defines the source field on the EDL that will be used to name the clips. If you're using filtering as well, ensure that it matches this selection.
When your workflow needs different processing for different clip types within the same pull, you can assign a second filter using a different marker color. Since we already configured a RED marker filter, we'll now add one for YELLOW:
Toggle on the Filter List File toggle. Then select Yellow Locator from the dropdown menu.
This tells Content Hub to apply different output settings, such as framing, handles, or start frames, to clips based on their marker color, all within a single pull submission.
Important: Your Output Naming selection must match your chosen marker color. A mismatch will cause clips to be routed or named incorrectly.
(Optional) Configuring advanced framing
Advanced framing gives you precise control over how your output is sized, fitted, and protected, pulling framing intent directly from the source FDL loaded in your camera formats. Use this option when your workflow requires exact container dimensions or needs to preserve specific protection areas defined in the FDL.
From Framing, select your desired option from the drop down menu. In this case let's select Advanced (with FDL), which will allow you to configure exactly what you need. This is only an output processing. To learn more about these options see our framing management video.
Now let's look at what you customize. This is an example of how to configure a deliverable that will take the framing intent from the source FDL loaded in camera formats and will fit the width into a 3840 container, preserving the protection area defined in the source FDL. Since we enabled filtering, only items marked as yellow in the EDL will get these settings.
Lastly select Save.
After these examples, you will have three deliverables:
-
EXR – Full Resolution
We went back and also filtered the Full resolution configuration so that they're also filtered to events in the EDL tagged with the RED marker. -
EXR – UHD with framing protection
Scaled to UHD while preserving framing decisions. Filtered to events tagged with the YELLOW marker. -
QuickTime – HD Reference
Framed according to the framing decision and applied to all events (no filtering).
Uses the “From source clip” field in the EDL to ensure consistent naming, regardless of marker.
There is no single “correct” way to configure deliverables. This framework is designed to support a wide range of workflows, from simple to highly customized.
The next section explains how to make use of these deliverables on the VFX Pulls submission page. Follow this guide to learn how.
Now you're ready to send a pull!
