  • Final Cut or Premiere XML (.xml)
  • CMX 3600 EDL (.edl)
  • OpenTimelineIO (.otio)

Video File

Resolution: Both vertical and horizontal pixel counts must be integers evenly divisible by 4. It is recommended to encode content at its native aspect ratio, padding with black to the nearest integer evenly divisible by 4.

  • Minimum: 1920x1080

  • Maximum: 4096x2160

Colorimetry:  The following video color spaces are supported:

  • Rec. 601
  • Rec. 709
  • xvYCC (will be treated as standard Rec. 709; values outside of the standard will be ignored)

Frame Rate:

  • Supported: 23.976fps, 24fps, 25fps, 29.97fps, 30fps, 50fps, 59.94fps, 60fps
  • Variable Frame Rate (VFR) is not supported
  • Interlaced and progressive inputs are supported; interlaced sources will be deinterlaced.

Video/Audio Source Format Specs:

Please ensure that your file includes embedded audio, as failure to do so may result in encoding issues.

  • H.264 (Closed GOP; Compressed Movie Atom [cmov] and Edit Lists [elst] are not supported)
    • Container: MP4 or MOV
    • Data Rate: There is no specific data rate defined for H264 editorial turnovers.  However, the data rate should be high enough to maintain good visual quality throughout, dependent on the resolution, frame rate, and actual content.

Editorial Media for Archive

  • Must maintain original folder structure from dailies or editorial system.
  • Any non-dailies source material should be included (GoPro, stills, licensed footage, etc).
  • Maintain the same names as the original project. This will make it easier to relink and locate items should the need arise later.
  • It’s recommended that all media files should remain unzipped prior to the delivery. Please contact your Netflix representative, should you encounter any upload issues (which may warrant delivering in a zipped format.). The limit on the number of files in a single upload is 250,000. If the file count exceeds 250,000, you will need to split the files up and upload in batches. It is best to split by directories rather than splitting by files within a folder whenever possible. Uploads will be batched into chunks of 25K files in Aspera. Therefore a batch of 100k files show up as 4 separate uploads in the Aspera transfer window.

Change Log:

2021-05-28

  • The recommended delivery format has been updated. Removing the media file zipping requirement and zip file size limitation.

2020-10-26

  • Added ProRes 4444 Specification, and adjusted minimum requirements for asset generation

2018-04-04

  • Clarified audio requirements for editorial assets delivered as H.264 in both MP4 and MOV containers.
