The following article has been written specifically for the new MacOS ‘Netflix Footage Upload’ application.  Therefore if you have been instructed to upload through Content Hubs ‘Mailbox’, please see our ‘Footage Backup’ documentation on our Partner Help Center.

___________________________________________________________________________________

The Netflix Footage Upload MacOS application allows you to backup and verify your original camera and sound masters to Netflix Near Line storage, using Aspera Connect to transfer the data. This application is the main entry point for all of the camera data to Netflix Content Hub asset Library.  Should you have any questions about using the Netflix folder template and how to organize your media, you can find help here

Uploads through the Netflix Footage Uploader application should be limited to up to 1 day of media at a time. A day of media can be broken up into parts, so you don’t have to upload your entire day of media in one go.  However no more than 1 day at a time should be uploaded.

To access support documentation select Support from the left hand panel.

You will now see the Upload Summary screen.  In this screen you will see an attempt at understanding what is a camera roll, vs what is a sound roll, vs any other additional content on the drive.  To understand what a camera roll is, the application will look for an MHL within the roll.  Therefore every camera and sound roll should have an MHL within the directory.

Confirm that every camera and sound roll has been recognized as a roll.  If they have not been, it could be due to a missing MHL. If you get your hands on an MHL that was not sent to you, as long as you have not started uploading, you can go back to Finder, add the MHL to the roll, and then use the Re-scan button to have the application take another look.

There is optional data that can be filled out on the top of the interface as well for Shoot Day, Episode/Block and Unit. The Shoot Date will be automatically retrieved from your MHL.  The other fields will be taken from the folder structure you uploaded if by chance you follow our folder structure logic.  Please see here for specifics.

MHL Errors

If your original camera and sound masters are missing a checksum or have any checksum errors you will be warned when reviewing your upload. You can proceed with the upload but it will fail the Netflix Nearline Storage verification. We recommend ensuring that all checksums are present before uploading.

Email Notifications

You will get two emails during the upload and verification process. The first email will be sent when your original camera and sound masters have completed uploading. The second email will be sent when your original camera and sound masters have passed verification.

The emails will contain the Project Title, Folder Name, Submitted by, Shoot Day, Shoot Date, what was completed, the location, and a digest of the camera and sound rolls that have been uploaded.
