Timing subtitles well creates a smoother viewing experience and can help to overcome reading speed problems. Subtitles shouldn’t just be timed to dialogue, they should take the edit of the video and shot changes into account. For example, out-times can be extended well past the end of speech or up to a nearby shot change in order to create a viewing experience which is accessible, readable and easy on the eye. All subtitles and SDH should adhere to the Netflix subtitle timing guidelines.
