On-set registration (OSR) lets you log a drive before it leaves set, creating a verified record of exactly what was captured and who sent it. Using the Footage Ingest app, you select the drive folder, confirm the project details, and complete registration before wrap. When the drive arrives at the upload facility, the system automatically recognizes it and pulls your metadata directly, skipping manual discovery entirely.
Before You Begin
The Footage Ingest app version used for on-set registration must match the version running at the upload facility. This is the most critical check before any footage is ingested. The on-set team (DIT or on-set data manager) is responsible for confirming the app version with the upload facility before any drive is sent. This should happen before the first day of production, not after the drive arrives at the upload facility.
If there's a version mismatch at the time of upload, the upload will not start automatically. You'll see a warning indicating the version difference and will have two options: download the correct app version to match and retry, or continue the upload without registration. You won't be blocked, but you will need to make a decision before proceeding.

Written Guide
Select Register Upload.
Select the Start Register button to begin the registration process.
Navigate to the drive folder containing the media for shoot day you wish to register and select Open.
Choose the project for this registration and select Next.
Your drive is now being indexed. The app will index your drive and automatically identify camera rolls, sound rolls, and other content.
Pre-upload validations will run on your media to ensure that everything meets the required data management practices. IMPORTANT NOTE:The app does not perform a full checksum verification. It only compares file and directory lists. Any corrupted files with checksum mismatches will only be detected after media is ingested at the Netflix Data Center.
If errors are detected, they will be highlighted. Common errors that will be detected include:
- Missing files
- Extra files
- Hidden files
- Invalid characters
- Missing MHLs
You can decide if any errors should be corrected before upload. If corrections are made, click Re-Scan to update the registration results.
Review the list to confirm all expected media appears, then select Start Registration.
The Netflix footage Ingest application is now writing a manifest file that includes the Media ID and user information. Please DO NOT eject or power down your drive during this process.
Once the directory is ready for upload you can eject the drive and deliver it to the Netflix facility you are using.
You will also be able to see that your upload is now visible in the Footage Management Page of your project in Content Hub where you can track the progress of your upload.
